About rural Victoria

How many rural properties does AgDSS cover in Victoria?

AgDSS covers 541,326 rural lots across 65 councils and 2,582 rural suburbs in Victoria. Rural lots are those in Victoria's rural zone suite: Farming, Green Wedge, Rural Living, Rural Conservation and Rural Activity zones.

What does each council page show?

Every council page carries soil organic carbon and land systems, climate and growing season, planning overlays, groundwater conditions and Valuer-General market context. Each council page also lists every rural suburb in it, with a link through to a suburb-scale deep dive.

Where does this data come from?

Soil organic carbon, pH and texture come from the Soil and Landscape Grid of Australia; salinity, erosion and waterlogging susceptibility from Victorian land systems mapping. Planning overlays and zones are from the Victoria Planning Provisions. Land use is from the Victorian Land Use Information System, groundwater from the Victorian monitoring network, and terrain from the national elevation model. Market context is the published Valuer-General Victoria suburb median — a suburb indicator, never a property valuation.

What's in the AgDSS app that isn't on this site?

These pages summarise a whole suburb or council. The AgDSS app works at the property level: a full report for a specific address, an interactive intelligence map across every rural lot, and an assistant that answers questions about that property. Sign-up is free.
